A Conservation Engineer’s Perspective

On March 8th, the VHA team attended a Baqus Seminar entitled Working with Listed Buildings: A Conservation Engineer’s Perspective. Conservation Engineer James Miller described his restoration projects spanning over thirty years which have included the stabilization of the floor of Westminster Hall; work to the temperate glasshouse at Kew Gardens and the repair of Tynemouth Railway Station. The latter was designed by William Bell in 1882 the Chief Architect of the NER who also designed Whitley Bay Station (as pictured) in 1911.
