A Tribute to Indian Valour

VHA were excited to host “A Tribute to Indian Valour” as part of this year’s Arundel Festival. Just over 100 years ago the Royal Pavilion in Brighton was chosen as a military hospital for Indian Soldiers wounded in the Great War. Jody East curator of the Pavilion and expert in the period spoke about those remarkable years. The renowned classical musician Jasdeep Singh Degun together with a tabla player performed evening ragas as a tribute to the soldiers

Listed Building & Planning Consent

Listed Building & Planning Consent were granted for a new kitchen extension to a Wealden Stone cottage located at the foot of the South Downs. The extension will provide for a more spacious kitchen with access via French doors onto an external dining area.

Planning Consent

VHA was very pleased to achieve planning consent for a new orangery style extension to the prestigious West Sussex Golf Club. WSSC was officially opened in 1931 and is widely recognised as one of the most natural and aesthetically pleasing courses in England. Members have taken the decision to commission a design which will not only address the current shortcomings of the existing building but also blend more sympathetically with the original architecture within its setting of the SDNP.

Planning Permission for a Barn Conversion

Victoria Holland Architecture was recently granted a Planning Consent for a conversion of a barn into a residential dwelling together with the erection of a garage in Surrey. The intention is to keep and reuse the existing structural framework and to retain its current form and outline within the landscape. The oak cladding to the dwelling is designed to appear naturalistic and to weather to blend with the rural landscape. The windows are designed as simple openings which from the inside will seamlessly frame the landscape.

Construction Work in Chichester

A Grade II Listed House, dated 1720, and built contemporaneously with Pallant House in Chichester by a rival Dutch merchant. The approved scheme was designed to improve the access through the widening of the vehicular route into the side courtyard and the creation of a new route through a loggia into the front courtyard. Construction work has recently started.

Planning Permission for an Replacement Dwelling

Planning consent has just been granted for a replacement dwelling at a beautiful rural location near Pulborough. The brief was to provide a modest sized family dwelling to sit unobtrusively within its setting. The ground floor domestic area is arranged upon simple symmetrical lines with a central entrance hall; a kitchen/dining room situated to the West to capture the evening light and the living room to the East – with a North/South orientation. The intention is to source materials; products and labour as locally as possible which will not only reinforce the sense of vernacular styling but capitalize on local skilled crafts people and the supply of readily available sustainable building materials thus reducing the carbon emission rate during the building process.
